  • Year 5/6 Sportshall Athletics - District

    Published 30/01/25

Earlier today, a squad of Year 6 children represented the school at the district Sportshall athletics competition. This competition is a Woodland View favourite and we have seen some great success at this event. Earlier in the year, our Year 3 and 4 squad were able to win their competition!

Sportshall athletics includes many different events: sprinting, jumping, throwing and working as a team. Throughout the competition, children compete in track and field events to help score points for their team.

It was a pleasure for Mr Willars, Mrs Walker and Mr Oelrich to attend this event with the children as they showed amazing cooperation, respect and determination during all the events. They are extremely proud of the children too for cheering each other on loudly and enthusiastically during the track events! In 12 running races, the team were able to achieve 9 commanding first-place finishes and 2 very close second-place finishes.

After completing all of their events, it was time for the children to find out how they had performed overall. In a field of thirteen strong schools, Woodland View came first overall!! They scored a staggering 525 points across all the events, beating the second-place school by more than 150 points!!

We are incredibly proud of our 2025 SHA squad! Because the team finished in first place, this gives them a great chance to represent the district at the county finals at the end of February. We are still waiting to hear whether we have reached this round as there was another competition this afternoon and we await confirmation of the results from that event.

We keep our fingers crossed for progression to the next round, but applaud our Y6 team for their amazing success so far!
