Headteacher Newsletter 437

Headteacher Newsletter No.437

Dear parents,

Storytelling Week (Including World Book Day) - Friday 7th March

Coming up after half term is Storytelling Week which encompasses World Book Day. This exciting week will be filled with activities which will immerse the children in developing their love for reading. As always, reading to your children as often as possible has a direct link to their educational success, wellbeing and ability to communicate effectively.

Our Storytelling Week finishes with World Book Day on Friday. Teachers are busy preparing some fun and engaging activities to promote books with the children. This day is also themed as a ‘dress-up’ day so children can come to school dressed as their favourite book characters from fiction books, or they could be inspired to wear clothes based on a non-fiction book.

Achieve With Me - week beginning 10th March - 2.30-3pm

Our next Achieve With Me sessions are approaching. This is a great opportunity to bring parents and children together in school to partake in some learning. It also gives you a chance to see what they are learning in school and an insight into how content is delivered.

The focus of these sessions is non-core learning. This means the wider curriculum subjects, such as History, Science, Art, Music, etc. The children will have had some input before you arrive so we are hoping they will be able to take a more leading role with your task and you can assist!

If you are able to come along, please arrive at the front of school by 2.30pm on your allotted day. If you have more than one child in the same session, we will be able to facilitate you being with them both/all - just let us know on arrival.

Monday 10th March - Y1 & Y3
Tuesday 11th March - Y2 & Y4
Wednesday 12th March - FS
Thursday 13th March - no session
Friday 14th March - Y5 & Y6

Parents’ Evening for FS-Y5 - Week beginning 24th March

Parents' evening pointers

This is another opportunity to visit school to see what your child has been learning, look through school books and get teacher feedback on their progress. We will send a further communication after half term so you can book an appointment.

Safer Internet Day

The 11th of February was Safer Internet Day 2025 - a fantastic day to remind ourselves - and the children - of the importance of being safe online. At Woodland View we are always looking for ways to ensure our children are both protected and have strategies for dealing with potential difficulties with the online world. Therefore, we:

  • have half-termly assemblies on different online safety themes
  • have half-termly lessons for the children in online safety
  • send out our monthly online safety newsletters that we Ping out to you about a variety of online safety themes and issues
  • take part in the yearly Safer Internet Day activities and events.

The theme of this year's Safer Internet Day was ‘Too good to be true? Protecting yourself and others from scams online‘. Therefore, this week at school, the children in all classes carried out some activities and a quiz on this year's theme of protecting themselves from online scams.

However, we know that learning is best when it is reinforced by lots of people surrounding the children. Therefore, if you wish to follow up at home with some more discussions or would like to engage your child with more activities about online safety generally or this year's theme please see the following recommended websites:

Children’s Mental Health Week

Children Mental Health Week 3rd – 9th February 2025 – Uni-City Medical Centre

Last week was Children’s Mental Health week. The focus for this was ‘know yourself, grow yourself’.

The week began with a special assembly from Mrs Matsangou, then throughout the week there were lunchtime activities centred around children having the opportunity to take part in activities that support a positive mindset. It was great to see so many children from all year groups attend these activities. I particularly enjoyed the motivating movement dance session!

We know how important it is to be mentally healthy therefore we do so much everyday to support children’s mental health. If you have any worries or concerns about your child then please do let us know.

The Woodland Times

Our superb team of Y6 reporters, with the support of Mr Johnson and Mrs Cox, work hard to prepare The Woodland Times throughout the year. It’s our school paper written FOR the children, BY the children. With views and opinions from children, staff and parents, this special item aims to inform our school community about some of the many great things happening in school.

Copies are put in classrooms and our school library for children to read and enjoy.
