Headteacher Newsletter 444

Dear parents, please read on for details about Sports Day, Science Week, Performing Arts Soirée, Cinema Club, New Planters, Open View, Summer Fair and the Parent Questionnaire.
Sports Days Reminder
Sports Days are coming up this week. All parents are welcome to attend and cheer their children on! Spectators will mostly be standing, and you may be required to follow your child to some different sport zones, so please bring an outdoor seat or picnic blanket if you’d prefer to rest your legs.
A reminder of the days and times:
Thursday 26th June - Foundation Stage - 9-10.15am
Thursday 26th June - Years1&2 - 10.15am-12.15pm
Friday 27th June - Years 5&6 - 9-11.30am
Friday 27th June - Years 3&4 - 12.50-3.10pm
Currently, Thursday is forecast for rain, so we will make a decision tomorrow if we are to postpone Sports Day for FS and Years 1&2 for a later date in the term. We would like to give it every chance to go ahead as we know many of you will have made plans to be there.
We’re looking forward to our Sports Days - and fingers crossed for lovely weather!
Science Week
This term, we held our own Woodland View science week! The children enjoyed a number of science-themed assemblies where they witnessed some exciting practical science experiments. Each class also benefited from a 'hands-on science workshop', delivered by Atomic Tom, relating to an area of the curriculum that they had been studying, courtesy of the Friends Of Woodland View! In addition, the children enjoyed solving science puzzles and participating in lunchtime science quizzes, as well as learning about a famous scientist. We hope that you have enjoyed their science homework challenges; we have certainly enjoyed seeing their projects, and their enthusiasm throughout the week has been infectious!
Performing Arts Soirée
Last week, 135 children from Years 2-6 took to the stage for our Performing Arts Soirée at Spinney Theatre. The theme was Rock Music with a special second half dedicated to the iconic Queen and Freddie Mercury.
The children performed songs, dances, instruments and drama superbly to showcase their talents and demonstrate their enthusiasm. Most importantly of all, they performed together as a team, demonstrating courage, cooperation and creativity. The children and staff involved were an inspiration! I hope that all in attendance enjoyed the show, and if your child didn’t take part this time, hopefully they will in the future! And for our Year 6 children, I hope they take this confidence with them to their secondary schools.
Cinema Club - FS-Y6
Our final Cinema Club of the year is on Monday, starting straight after school and finishing at 5pm*. This is always a popular event with the children as they enjoy a hotdog and popcorn whilst watching a film with their friends. Please go to https://www.pta-events.co.uk/friendsofwoodlandview/index.cfm?event=event&eventId=100994 to buy your child a ticket.
*For children in Reception, their finish time will be slightly earlier at 4.30pm, so please collect your child in the usual way at this time.
For families with 3 children, please purchase 2 tickets only as your third child can go free of cost. Then contact the school office to let them know so we can add them to the list.
New Planters
You may have noticed our fantastic new planters dotted around the school grounds. We were very kindly donated these by the charity Resilience and Innovation Northants (RAIN), who work with communities, to test new approaches to help improve flood resilience. The SuDs planters aren't just any ordinary planter, they are specifically designed to manage rainwater run-off, and support biodiversity. A big thank you to the team at RAIN, who have delivered lessons, organised the installation of the planters and helped plant these up with the children. We think the planters certainly brighten up the grounds and look forward to seeing these flourish in the future.
Open View Reminder
One of our most popular events for parents is our Open View sessions. This is an opportunity for you to sit with your child and look through their work from the year (hopefully in the beautiful sunshine!). Each session starts at 2.30pm and finishes at 3pm.
Here is a reminder of the dates:
Monday 7th July: Y1&Y3
Tuesday 8th July: Y2&Y4
Wednesday 9th July: Foundation Stage
Thursday 10th July: Y5&Y6
At the end of the term, you will also receive your child’s end-of-year report which outlines their academic progress, outcomes and successes from the year and identifies targets for future improvement.
Coming soon is our annual Summer Fair! On Friday 11th July, we will transform our outdoor spaces into a summer fair of games, refreshments, prizes, music, activities, tombolas and fun!
This year we are making the event easier for parents and children by allowing the purchased ticket to cover the cost of all games and activities so your little ones can play as many times as they like without coming back to you for more money! Refreshments, tombolas, the raffle, biscuit decorating and the wine game will be the only stalls that require payment.
The tickets for this event are already on sale at https://www.pta-events.co.uk/friendsofwoodlandview/index.cfm?event=event&eventId=101017
Next Friday 4th July is a non-uniform day (mufti) in return for a contribution to the tombola, so please bring something along with your child on that day which will make for a good prize at the summer fair!

If you have not done so already, please take a few moments to complete our parent questionnaire via the link below. Your feedback plays an important role in helping us recognise what’s working well, celebrate the strengths of our school community and identify areas where we can continue to grow.
