VE Day
Last Thursday, we commemorated the 80th anniversary of VE Day with a special whole-school assembly, where our children learned about the significance of Victory in Europe Day and reflected on the end of World War II in Europe. The assembly included songs, stories, and thoughtful discussions to help the children understand the importance of peace and remembrance. To further mark the occasion, we transformed the school lunch hall into a festive scene reminiscent of a traditional street party, complete with decorations and a joyful atmosphere, allowing the children to experience a sense of the community spirit that defined the original celebrations in 1945.
School Attendance & Term Time Holidays
When children arrive on time and attend school every day, they are more likely to feel settled, confident, and ready to learn. Frequent absences or lateness can disrupt your child’s education, cause them to fall behind, and affect their overall progress and wellbeing. Every minute of the school day counts, and your support in promoting good attendance and punctual habits is greatly appreciated. Together, we can help your child get the most out of their time at school. If you would like any more information on how we monitor or promote attendance at school, please visit our school website, https://www.wvps.northants.sch.uk/page/?title=Attendance&pid=91
We’d like to kindly remind all parents and carers that holidays during term time can be very disruptive to your child’s learning and are only authorised in truly exceptional circumstances. We understand the importance of family time, but regular attendance is vital to help your child make the most of their education. Children are expected in school for a total of 190 days a year which means they have 175 days where they are not in school. These 175 days provide plenty of opportunity to enrich their lives with family time, visits out and holidays away from home.
Taking holidays during school time may result in unauthorised absences, which could lead to a fixed penalty notice from the local authority. The government has imposed stricter measures on schools to challenge non-attendance and to refer unauthorised non-attendance to the local authority.
We really appreciate your support in helping us ensure that every child has the best chance to thrive in school.
Family Learning Courses
It’s not too late to sign up for the Family Learning Course, 1,2,3 Magic, run by North Northants. This is a behaviour management programme to help you develop better strategies for dealing with your child’s behaviour.
The course starts on Thursday 5th June, runs for 6 weeks and will take place in school from 1-3pm. Please see the previous PING message for more details and to sign up for this free course.
More Sporting Success
It’s been another busy term so far with lots of children participating in sporting events. In these past two weeks alone, we have had a Year 5 Girls Netball team finishing fourth in a local competition, a Year 6 squad finishing third at the NFL Flag East Midlands Regional Championships, after previously qualifying from the County Championships, and, on Saturday, our wonderful Year 2 Strictly Dancing troupe placed 3rd in the Dancing Schools UK event at the Derngate.
I am very grateful to the staff involved in running these clubs and providing the opportunities, parents for supporting us, and, of course, our talented and courageous children for taking part and demonstrating our school values as they compete!
