Year 6 NFL Flag - Regionals
On Thursday, a team of Year 6 children represented the school and county at the NFL Flag East Midlands Regional Championships! The competition was organised by the NFL and took place at Nottingham University. The team had previously placed second at the county level, losing only one game out of five. To get to this stage was an amazing achievement!
Upon arrival, we were gifted a kit to represent the New York Giants. This would be the NFL team that we would be representing on the day. The competition started with an incredibly tough game (against the team we lost to in the previous round), but the team were able to rally and win their first match. They followed this up by then winning their next match comprehensively before losing in a hard-fought third game. After lunch, the team scored another win before losing for the second time in the day. They finished this portion of the day with 3 wins and 2 losses. Some of these games were tough and each member of the team showed great skill on offence and defence, amazing respect and sportsmanship and outstanding cooperation and teamwork! After another short break, the team found out they had finished 3rd and had qualified for the semi-final!
In the semi-final, the children worked and played incredibly hard and kept going and going even when it got tough. Unfortunately, the team was unable to get the win and did not advance to the final. In the 3rd place playoff, the team faced a well-matched school from Derbyshire. Earlier in the day, the team had lost, but they fought well to win the game after an early setback! This was a wonderful redemption and the team, staff and parents were incredibly proud of this performance.
This means that Woodland View finished 3rd overall at the regional level! Unfortunely, this does mean that the team haven't qualified for the national finals in June. However, this achievement is truly amazing and we are incredibly proud of our squad; they only took up the sport in PE in the middle of February and they have done an amazing job learning the sport in such a short space of time!
