Headteacher Newsletter 465 - End of Year Message

Dear parents

As another school year draws to a close, I reflect with pride and gratitude. Woodland View is a very special place, and that is because of the people who make up our community.

First and foremost, I want to thank our wonderful children. Every day they inspire us with their curiosity, determination, kindness and resilience. They embrace challenges, celebrate successes, support one another and, perhaps most importantly, bring joy and laughter into our school every single day. It is a privilege to watch them grow - not only academically, but as caring, confident and thoughtful young people. Whether a child has mastered a difficult mathematical concept, performed on stage for the first time, shown courage in overcoming a personal challenge, or simply been kind to a friend, these are the moments that make us most proud.

I would also like to thank our incredible staff. Their commitment to the children goes far beyond the school day. They continually give their time, energy and expertise to ensure every child is known, supported and encouraged to achieve their very best. Their care, professionalism and unwavering dedication are the foundation of everything we do, and I am enormously proud to lead such a talented and compassionate team.

To our parents and carers, thank you for your continued support throughout the year. Thank you for working alongside us, attending our many events, supporting your children's learning, responding so positively when plans occasionally change, and for placing your trust in us each day. Education works best when school and home work together, and we are fortunate to have such a supportive parent community.

I would also like to recognise the many people beyond our school gates who enrich Woodland View. Our Governors provide challenge, guidance and unwavering support. Friends of Woodland View continue to give their time and enthusiasm to create memorable experiences for our children. Our parent volunteers, visitors, local businesses, Grange Park Church and the many organisations we work alongside all contribute to making Woodland View the vibrant community it is. Schools do not thrive in isolation - they thrive because communities come together - and we are incredibly fortunate to have so many people standing alongside us.

Our school motto, Inspire, Enjoy, Achieve, continues to guide everything we do.
We work hard to inspire our children through exciting learning opportunities and experiences that extend far beyond the classroom. We strive to ensure children genuinely enjoy coming to school, because we know that happy children learn best. (If you ever need reminding of just how much happens at Woodland View, a quick look through our school blogs tells the story!) Alongside this, we remain ambitious for every child to achieve academically, whilst also celebrating success in sport, performing arts, leadership, creativity and personal development.

However, what gives me the greatest satisfaction is not simply results or awards. It is seeing children develop confidence, resilience, compassion, independence and character. Those daily moments of growth, often unseen outside the classroom, are what make education such a privilege.
As always at the end of the year, we also say goodbye to some valued members of our Woodland View family.

  • After being part of Woodland View since the school first opened its doors, Mrs Birch begins a well-deserved retirement from the school office. She has been a constant source of support for families, staff and children over many years, and we thank her sincerely for everything she has contributed.
  • We also say farewell to Mrs Beevers, whose many years of dedicated service have made a lasting difference to countless children.
  • Mr Havard leaves us to begin an exciting new career as Site Manager at a Northamptonshire school, and we wish him every success.
  • Miss Brahimaj embarks on an incredible adventure as she travels to Vietnam, and we hope this next chapter brings wonderful experiences and lifelong memories.
  • Finally, we thank Mr Oelrich from Freestyle, who has worked with our children over the past two years. His enthusiasm and passion for sport have been greatly appreciated, and we wish him every success in his new career.

Like many schools across the country, education continues to face significant challenges. Over recent years, school budgets have become increasingly stretched, with funding not keeping pace with rising costs. At the same time, the needs of children have become more complex, while the expectations and accountability placed upon schools by the Department for Education and Ofsted continue to increase.  The result is that schools everywhere are having to think differently, innovate and make difficult decisions in order to continue delivering the very best education possible.

Having worked in education for 22 years, I cannot remember a period where the demands on school staff have felt so great. Yet what continually impresses me is the way our team responds - with creativity, professionalism and an unwavering commitment to children. We constantly review how we work, seek smarter ways of doing things and focus every decision on maintaining the highest standards for our pupils.

Despite these national challenges, Woodland View continues to flourish. Our recent Parent Survey showed that 100% of responding parents would recommend Woodland View to others, something that fills us with enormous pride. We continue to attract families from well beyond our local area who actively choose our school, and when we have recruited staff this year, the number and quality of applicants has been exceptional. These are powerful indicators of the reputation Woodland View has earned, and one we are determined to protect.

As Headteacher, I could not be prouder of our school community. Together we have created a school where children are inspired to learn, enjoy coming to school and achieve in so many different ways. That is something every one of us - children, families, staff and the wider community - has played a part in.

I wish all of our families a happy and restful summer break. For those children moving on to secondary school, we send you with our very best wishes and every confidence that you will continue to thrive. To everyone returning in September, we look forward to welcoming you back for another exciting year at Woodland View.

Yours sincerely, Mark Horsley
