Headteacher Newsletter 458

Dear parents, please read on for information about our new Value, Parents' Evening, pupil information, Family Learning Course, Young Carers, World Book Day, Family Reading Session and Achieve With Me.

New Term - New Value - Honesty

Welcome back after half-term. It has been wonderful to see the children returning to school with such positivity and energy – and what a treat to have a bit of sunshine as well! We have even had a few children making the most of it with some (well-supervised!) sunbathing at lunchtime.

This term, our new school value is Honesty. Honesty is at the heart of strong relationships and a positive community. It helps us to build trust, take responsibility for our actions and learn from our mistakes. Over the coming weeks, we will be focusing on what honesty looks like in our classrooms, on the playground and within our wider school community, helping the children to understand why being truthful and open is such an important life skill.

World Book Day

We are excited to let you know that we will be celebrating World Book Day on Friday 6th March! This is always a fantastic opportunity to promote a love of reading across the school. On the day, children are invited to come to school dressed as one of their favourite book characters. Costumes can be as simple or creative as you like — we can’t wait to see the wonderful characters brought to life!

To make the celebration even more special, we will also be launching a fun family competition for children to complete at home (optional). Further details will be shared on the day — we hope lots of families will enjoy getting involved together!

Family Reading Session for Foundation Stage, Year 1 & Year 2 - Friday 6th March 2026 at 2:45pm

A reminder that we are inviting parents and carers from Foundation Stage, Year 1 and Year 2 to join us in school to come and read with your child in their classroom. Sharing a book together is a wonderful way to support your child’s learning, build confidence, and foster a love of reading. We look forward to welcoming you into the classroom and celebrating the joy of reading together.

Parents’ Evening - Week Beginning 23rd March

Parents’ Evenings for children in Foundation Stage through to Year 5 will take place during the week beginning 23rd March. Please see the Ping sent yesterday for details of how to book your appointment.
These meetings are a really important opportunity to talk about your child’s progress, celebrate their successes and discuss next steps. Strong home–school partnerships make a significant difference to children’s confidence, achievement and wellbeing, so we strongly encourage all parents and carers to attend. We look forward to seeing you and working together to support your child’s continued progress.

EAL, Services and Pupil Premium Information

We are currently reviewing some of the data collected about our children and ensuring it is up-to-date. This information is to help our teachers plan lessons, provide resources, and track progress fairly while valuing each child’s background. The information is used to support your child’s learning and wellbeing, and it can also increase school funding.

Please help us by answering three very quick questions which were sent via School Ping on Wednesday. Thank you.

Neurodiversity Family Learning Course

Through our work with North Northants Council, we have recently provided two successful free of charge Family Learning Courses. Next up is ‘Introduction to Neurodiversity’. It will run on Wednesdays from 15th April to 13th May 2026 (5 sessions).

It’s a supportive and safe discussion group where parents can learn more about neurodiversity, school and county support, and also have the chance to reflect on strategies for family life and personal wellbeing.

The sessions include:

  • An introduction to neurodiversity
  • Understanding the diagnostic process
  • Communicating with professionals and school
  • Ways to support your child at home
  • Looking after yourself

The sessions are designed to be friendly and supportive, and will also give parents a chance to meet others and share experiences.

If you are interested in attending, please look out for a Ping message which will be sent out next week.

Supporting Young Carers in Our School Community

At Woodland View, we are committed to supporting all pupils to thrive. Some children may be young carers - helping to look after a family member who has a disability, long-term illness, mental health condition, or other additional needs.

While young carers are proud of the support they give at home, caring responsibilities can sometimes impact wellbeing, friendships or learning. We work closely with Northamptonshire Carers, who provide specialist support, activities, advice and opportunities for young carers across the county.

If you think your child may be a young carer and could benefit from additional support, please contact the school in confidence. With your consent, we can help explore support options and make a referral where appropriate.

Please contact Mrs Taylor, Family Support Worker, via the school office office@wvps.northants.sch.uk or call the school number 01604 765037.

Together, we can ensure every child feels recognised, valued and supported.#
