Valentines Cake Sale after school today

A big thank you to our wonderful Friends of Woodland View (PTA), who are spreading a little Valentine’s cheer with a Valentine’s Cake Sale after school today!

Treats will be available at £1.50 for 2 cakes or £2 for 4 cakes - a perfect way to enjoy something sweet while supporting the school. Cash is preferred, but there will also be a cashless payment option available for convenience.

We hope you’re able to pop along and support them. Thank you, as always, for providing cakes and for helping the FOWV continue to provide those “extra touches” that make Woodland View so special.

Children’s Mental Health Week

This week in school we marked Children’s Mental Health Week, beginning with our “Wear What Makes You Happy” day. Many aspects of our curriculum help promote the importance of valuing our mental wellbeing and we continue to support all of our pupils to recognise their emotions and feelings.

As part of Children’s Mental Health Week, we are inviting families to take part in a Family Wellbeing Challenge during the half-term break. Families are encouraged to spend some time together completing simple activities that promote wellbeing, such as going for a walk, sharing a story, practising kindness, or enjoying a screen-free moment. These activities are designed to support positive mental health, strengthen family connections, and encourage calm and reflection at home.

Please see the attached document to the School Ping and see how many wellbeing activities you can complete!

Terrific Tigers

This week, the KS1 children had an exciting visit from Mark at The David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation (DSWF). The children loved taking part in an exciting workshop in which they learned about tigers and how and why protecting them in the wild is so important. They also found out about the features of a tiger as they each made their own puppet. Every child in KS1 has taken their beautifully crafted puppet home along with a bookmark that they were gifted. We were lucky to receive this workshop funded by the DSWF charity and would like to extend our thanks to Mark and his team, and to Miss Hicklin for organising the experience.

Paula Harrison Author Visit

We were delighted to welcome Paula Harrison to Woodland View this week to celebrate the launch of her brand-new book, Animagicals. She delivered a fantastic assembly for children in Years 1–4, sharing insights into her writing journey, her inspiration for the story and, of course, introducing some of the magical characters from her new book. The children were completely captivated!

Following the assembly, Paula hosted a special book signing session for pupils who had pre-ordered a copy. We were thrilled that 99 books were pre-booked - an amazing number and a real testament to our children’s love of reading.

A huge thank you to Paula for such an inspiring visit and to our families for supporting this wonderful opportunity to promote reading for pleasure, and thank you to our Reading Specialists Mrs Speirs and Mrs Warren for organising the event!

Parent Involvement

We are always keen to create meaningful opportunities for parents and carers to be involved in school life, as we know how important that partnership is for our children’s success. When school and home work closely together, children thrive - both academically and emotionally.

Recently, we have welcomed many of you into school for a range of events. Our Online Safety Meeting provided practical advice and guidance to help families navigate the digital world with confidence. The Family Resilience Course offered valuable strategies to support children’s wellbeing and emotional development, and it was lovely to see parents sharing experiences and ideas. We have also thoroughly enjoyed our Year Group Performances so far this year- with Year 5 and Year 2 performing this week. The children are so proud to showcase their hard work, and your support makes the occasions even more special.

It has been wonderful to see such strong attendance and enthusiastic involvement from so many parents. Your engagement truly makes a difference and reinforces our shared commitment to helping every child Inspire, Enjoy and Achieve.
We are looking forward to welcoming you into school again soon. Upcoming opportunities include Achieve With Me sessions and our Family Reading Sessions (details below). We hope you will be able to join us - they are always special moments to share.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support.

Family Reading Session for Foundation Stage, Year 1 & Year 2 - Friday 6th March 2026 at 2:45pm

A reminder that we are inviting parents and carers from Foundation Stage, Year 1 and Year 2 to join us in school to come and read with your child in their classroom. Sharing a book together is a wonderful way to support your child’s learning, build confidence, and foster a love of reading. We look forward to welcoming you into the classroom and celebrating the joy of reading together.

Book and Uniform Sale

Our fantastic FOWV will also be holding a Book and Pre-Loved Uniform Sale on Monday 23rd February.

Uniform items will be available at just £2 for burgundy items and £1 for all other items - a great opportunity to pick up good-quality pieces at a very reasonable price. There will also be a selection of books available at £1 each, perfect for refreshing bedtime reads or discovering a new favourite story.

Cashless payments will be available for your convenience.

Thank you for continuing to support the FOWV - every purchase helps them raise valuable funds to enrich opportunities and experiences for our children.

Achieve With Me sessions - week beginning 9th March

Our next Achieve With Me sessions are fast approaching. This is a great opportunity to bring parents and children together in school to partake in some learning. It also gives you a chance to see what they are learning in school and an insight into how content is delivered.

The focus of these sessions is non-core learning. This means the wider curriculum subjects, such as History, Science, Art, Music, etc. The children will have had some input before you arrive so we are hoping they will be able to take a more leading role with your task and you can assist!

If you are able to come along, please arrive at the front of school by 2.30pm on your allotted day. If you have more than one child in the same session, we will be able to facilitate you being with them both/all - just let us know on arrival.

Monday 9th March (Y1&Y4)
Tuesday 10th March (Y2&Y6)
Wednesday 11th March (Y3)
Thursday 12th March (FS)
Friday 13th March (Y5)
