Theme and Variations
In Music, we have been looking at 'Twinkle Twinkle' and considering the form - theme and variations. In our first lesson, we use body percussion to play the rhythms and began to consider how we can improvise and compose new 'variations'. As a class, we then worked these into our own piece of music, which we wrote as a score, considering the note values.
This week, we moved onto tuned percussion and learnt how to play the twinkle twinkle on the glockenspiels. We learned how important it was to have flexible wrists to allow the sound to resonate. Once we had worked out the tune, our thoughts turned to creating our own variations - just like Mozart!
We took one line of and then created our own variations to last four bars. As a class, we created a complete piece of music using the line from Twinkle Twinkle as our 'theme', added three variations and even a coda! There was some impressive playing in both classes; Mrs Cox was very impressed!
Our final hurrah was adding a rhythmic accompaniment with the accoustix! We made a fantastic sound!
