Culture Day!
Today, Woodland View hosted their first ever Culture Day! This is a day when we get to celebrate the diversity and wide range of cultures in our school. It is also linked to our current curriculum C: culture.
In Year 6, we celebrated today with a long list of exciting cultural experiences: playing Gaelic football, creating Rangoli artwork, listening to guest speakers, having a unique Spanish experience and tasting some traditional foods!
The children had the chance to learn some of the rules and skills that are associated with Gaelic football; it was great to see everyone enjoying participating in a new sport!
The children also had the chance to create some Rangoli art patterns. Using rice, the children worked in small groups to make the patterns. It was wonderful to see how the children cooperated and the beautiful colourful masterpieces they were able to create.
Also, the children took part in a Spanish experience. This experience included the children flying to Spain, writing postcards to send to their families, visiting an ice cream parlour and exploring and purchasing items in a shop. This experience was great as it allowed us to use our current Spanish learning as well as extending and expanding our Spanish vocabulary.
We were also treated to a pair of wonderful parent speakers! This experience allowed us to learn more about Pakistani and Indian culture, as well as asking our own questions and getting detailed responses. We thank our amazing parent volunteers for coming in and sharing their knowledge and expertise.
The children were also able to sample some traditional, homemade sweet and savoury treats from Poland and Moldova! We are extremely proud of all the children for trying the delicious dishes and wish to thank some of our wonderful parents for supplying these foods for us to try!
As you can see from the images below, today was an exceptional experience and one that we won't forget in a hurry! What a wonderful day!
