Maths Week!
This week has been Maths Week. We have been focusing on money and coins. On Monday, we were trying to spot a 'good' deal. We looked at adverts that advertised discounts of 50% off, buy one get one free and bundle deals. We tried to decide whether they were 'good' deals and if they were, when might they be a 'bad' deal. On Tuesday, we tried to design some of our own deals.
On Thursday, as part of our Maths Week, we welcomed Alice and Sandra from the bank Santander into school. Year 4 took part in a lesson on budgeting and saving. We had to buy items for a fictional bedroom; identifying things we needed and things we wanted. We were then given a budget. We also learnt lots of new words, including interest, earning and budgeting.
On Friday, we were trying to solve a money word problem. 'If Jerry had 5 coins in his pocket, how much money could he have?' The children were encouraged to find their own way of recording their findings and came up with some great ideas.
Some fantastic, thoughtful work about money this week as part of our Maths Week.
