An interesting delivery...
This morning, just as we were about to start our English lesson, we were informed that a mysterious package had been delivered to the school, addressed to our two classes. We decided that the package needed to be investigated further. Upon opening the attached letter, we discovered that it was from Chris Van Allsburg, an author, asking for our help.
Chris Van Allsburg has a collection of pictures that came into his possession many years ago. He had procured them from the publisher, Mr Wenders, who had originally got them from Harris Burdick. It turns out that Mr Burdick had taken these pictures, along with titles and just one caption for each to see if the publisher liked his work. Mr Wenders had liked the idea of these mysterious stories, so Harris Burdick had promised to return the next day with the stories; however, he never returned. Therefore, the stories have never been written! In his letter, Chris Van Allsburg was asking for our help to bring these stories to life and finally produce a collection of stories to match the images.
Fortunately, the pictures were sent to us with titles and captions however they had become detached along the way! We used our inference skills to decide which titles and which captions belonged with each one. It was quite tricky, but there were some amazing discussions!
Once we had successfully returned the titles and captions to their respective stories, we looked closer at the images and spotted more specific details. Each group looked at just one image, and, using the clues from the image and the caption, began to make a prediction as to what the story could be about. They then summarised their ideas by writing a short blurb for their image.
Some incredible suggestions! We can't wait to bring these stories to life!
