We made poo!

Today in Science, we were learning about the digestive system and how our body uses food. We used different items to represent the different parts of the digestive system. 

Firstly, we put the food into a jug with some water, this represented the mouth and saliva. We then used a knife to cut up the food, this acted like our teeth. The food was then put into the oesophagus and made its way into the plastic bag, which acted as the stomach. After it entered the stomach, more water was added to represent the acid used to break down the food in our stomachs. The mixture then entered the intestines (the tights and the sock) This was where some of the children had to help push the food along. The children got water on their hands from the food. This represented the body absorbing the nutrients and water through the intestines to be used by the body. Eventually the ‘poo’ reached the cup which was the anus and a cut was made in the cup to show how the muscles relax to release the poo. 

We had a lot of giggles doing this and were very confident with our scientific language.
