Inference trees

Over the past couple of weeks, we have been reading Darwin's Dragons. We have thought lots about the vocabulary and we have been really testing our inference and prediction skills. Today we were focusing on drawing inferences about the main character's feelings through chapter 17. There were two clear feelings that ran as themes throughout the chapter: relief and fear. In pairs, we used the text to find clues that proved that Syms was either feeling relief or fear. We then added these to our inference trees to consider just how the feelings may be the root, but it is how it is shown that really allows the reader to understand the character's feelings (the branches) through what they say or do.
