Teeth Egg-periment!

Today we looked at the three eggs we had left on the windowsill in different substances last week. We left one egg in water, one in coke and one in pure orange juice. We made initial observations and then we tried to brush each of the eggs with toothpaste and a toothbrush. We were able to get rid of some of the staining by the orange and coke but the egg in the water had no staining on it. The orange juice not only stained the egg, but it also made the eggshell weaker. As eggshell is very similar to enamel, this shows us that sugary, acidic drinks can weaken the enamel of our teeth and that brushing is really important.
