Who was to blame?

This morning, we heard about five key people involved in the sinking of the Titanic. We considered what part they played and drew our own conclusions about who was ultimately at fault.

  • Captain (Edward John) Smith - Captain of the RMS Titanic,
  • The shipbuilders - worked in the shipyard in Belfast to construct the RMS Titanic,
  • Bruce Ismay - CEO of the White Star Line Company,
  • Thomas Andrews - Chief Architect (designer) of the RMS Titanic,
  • Captain (Stanley) Lord - Captain of the Californian.

We then held a debate, listening to each other’s reasoning. There were some very strong arguments and some very well-thought points, backed up with evidence to support our thinking.

This was great fun and really helped us with our end-of-theme reflection: discussing who we thought was to blame (if anyone) for the sinking of the Titanic.
