Africa- The Hunter
Today, we arrived in the classroom to discover African music playing, fascinating African artefacts and posters highlighting the issue of poaching. This was the perfect inspiration for launching our exciting new topic, ‘Come Fly with Me – Africa!’
To spark our curiosity, we explored the story The Hunter by Paul Geraghty. The book tells the story of a young girl called Jamina, who discovers a baby elephant all alone in the African bush.
Putting ourselves in Jamina’s shoes, we explored this tricky dilemma: should she leave the baby elephant where she found him or take him home to care for him? The children enthusiastically shared their opinions, discussed their ideas and thought carefully about their reasons. They then recorded their thoughts on Post-it notes and proudly displayed them on the board, creating a great collection of different viewpoints and ideas.
