Playgrounds

Our DT topic is all focused around playgrounds and the structures that stand within them.

This afternoon, we learnt about three different types of structures: frame, arch and shell. We then went out to look at the local park for some inspiration. We took photographs of the structures that we saw and analysed which structure they were demonstrating. When we returned to the classroom, we uploaded our images to Padlet so that we had a shared collection of images. Using this inspiration, we created our own design criteria in readiness for creating our own playgrounds.

We also thought about our design criteria and have settled on the following points:

  • It must be strong, secure and safe.
  • It must be engaging and interactive.
  • It must have something that moves.
  • It must have somewhere to hide or go through.
  • It must have something to climb.
  • It must have space to move between the apparatus.

Next, we will begin designing our playgrounds, using the criteria above to help with the planning process. We cannot wait to actually build them soon!
