Headteacher Newsletter 445

Dear parents, please read on for details about Hot Weather, Volunteering, Summer Fair, End of Year Reports, Year 6 Guard of Honour and Summer Reading Challenge.
Hot Weather
Good news - the hot weather is continuing, and it’s likely to stay with us until the end of the term with temperatures looking likely to rise again tomorrow. Therefore, children can choose to wear PE kits or uniforms up until the end of next week. The priority is to keep them cool and comfortable.
However, PE t-shirts must be white, shorts must reach at least halfway down the thigh, and sandals are not allowed. Also, please continue to follow the usual protocols to keep the children safe in the heat: water bottles, sun hats and sunscreen applied before school.
We will continue to do our bit in school by allowing children opportunities to stay hydrated, limit the time in the sunshine and keep the school building well-ventilated.
Volunteering - Your School Needs You!
At Woodland View we have always been eager to welcome parent volunteers into school to support the children and staff. This year, we have had a record number of volunteers supporting in classrooms, which has been incredible! Thank you so much to all of our volunteers - we hope you know the difference that you make!
However, there is always room for more! We love to have parent volunteers in school to support in a range of ways: in classrooms, reading with children or even helping to run our library. If you are interested in being a parent volunteer, then please complete the Ping Survey to indicate how you would like to help and what availability you have. All parent volunteers will need to be DBS checked. If you have been a volunteer this year and want to do it again, you won't need a DBS check and you will receive a different ping very soon. Please also let us know if you have any other interests or strengths that you would be keen to share with our children. We can’t wait to have you in school working with our wonderful children!
Summer Fair - this Friday
On Friday, it is our annual Summer Fair! We will transform our outdoor spaces into a summer fair of games, refreshments, prizes, music, activities, tombolas and fun!
This year we are making the event easier for parents and children by allowing the purchased ticket to cover the cost of all games and activities, so your little ones can play as many times as they like without coming back to you for more money! Refreshments, tombolas, the raffle, biscuit decorating and the wine game will be the only stalls that require payment.
If you haven’t purchased tickets yet, go to https://www.pta-events.co.uk/friendsofwoodlandview/index.cfm?event=event&eventId=101017
The money raised at the Summer Fair goes into our FOWV pot, which is used to spend on initiatives, resources, facilities and treats for the children. For example, since last year we have had the M&M Theatre Group visit to put on a wonderful production of Wizard of Oz which all the children enjoyed, Atomic Science recently led exciting and fun workshops for all the children during Science Week, our Early Years Outdoor Environment is currently undergoing exciting development, and the Year 6 children were treated to special Leavers’ Hoodies.
But that’s not all. Coming up in the Autumn Term we begin an exciting outdoor Play Project for the whole school which will see the creation of new play and activity stations installed to support children’s development and enjoyment at break times.
So, thank you for all of your support in supporting FOWV events, and especially to those of you who help out, and we are looking forward to seeing many of you at the Summer Fair on Friday.
End of Year Reports
Your child’s end-of-year report will be coming home next Tuesday. It provides a summary of their progress, achievements, and personal development over the year, along with key targets for future learning. We hope you find it a helpful reflection of your child’s journey and growth this year.
Reports must be collected by a parent or carer; if you would like your Year 5 or 6 children - or an alternative adult - to take them home instead, please ensure permission is given in advance by contacting the school office or your child’s teacher.
Year 6 Guard of Honour
We are quickly closing in on the end of the school year! This is particularly important for our Year 6 children as they prepare to leave us and prepare themselves for their new secondary schools.
The Year 6 children have already been undertaking some special activities, and these will continue next week. The final Year 6 event takes place at 3pm on the last day of term. Our Year 6 children have to walk through the Guard of Honour. This takes place on the field and it is made up of all the children and staff at school. When they reach the end, they have a special photo opportunity.
The parents of Year 6 children are invited to the lower playground so that they can be there for their child once they have completed the Guard of Honour. However, if you are not a Year 6 parent and you would like to watch from 3pm then you can from the top playground. It promises to be a sad, exciting and memorable experience!
Summer Reading Challenge – Launch Event at Wootton Library
Today we had a special assembly from Wootton Library, who encouraged us to head over to Wootton Library on Saturday 19th July for the exciting launch of this year’s Story Garden reading challenge. Designed for children aged 4-11, the Summer Reading Challenge inspires young readers to keep up their reading over the summer holidays and to enjoy reading whatever they like!
Children can set their own reading goals and earn fun rewards along the way. Best of all, it’s completely FREE to take part. Please see the flyer with all the fantastic activities planned at Wootton Library throughout the summer - don’t miss out on the fun!
