Headteacher Newsletter 462

Dear parents, please read on for information on our new Value, last term's Values Awards, a singing treat this Friday, Class Photo Day, Science Week, Sports Day, Inspiring Opportunities and Wildcats Football for Girls.
New Value - Respect
This term, our school value is Respect - our core value and the foundation upon which all our other values are built. Creativity, honesty, kindness, courage and cooperation all flourish when there is respect at their heart.

Teaching children the importance of respect helps them develop positive relationships, understand and appreciate differences, and become thoughtful members of our community. Respect means valuing ourselves, others and the world around us. It is demonstrated through our words, actions and attitudes every day.
Throughout this term, children will be exploring what respect means in different situations and how they can show respect both in school and beyond. We look forward to celebrating the many ways our children demonstrate this important value.
Creativity Values Awards
What a fantastic way to end last term by celebrating our value of Creativity! Our Value Awards Assembly was a lively and exciting occasion, complete with our famous red carpet and some truly deserving winners.

This was an opportunity to promote and celebrate how children can be creative through their learning, problem-solving and imaginative thinking. Please see the link below to enjoy highlights from the assembly and celebrate our award winners once again.

WickOz School Singing Treat - everyone welcome!
As a special treat and preview, the whole school (FS-Y6) will be performing a song on the playground, to you, the parents. This will take place at the end of the day on Friday at 2.55pm. If you wish to come and listen, you are more than welcome to join us. Please come and queue by the school gates from 2.50pm. The children will then return to their classes and be dismissed from the school as normal.
We hope you chose to come and listen to our fabulous children demonstrating their singing skills, and we look forward to seeing you then.

Class Photo Day on Thursday
A reminder that Class Photo Day will take place this Thursday.
Children will have their photograph taken with their class, and families will have the opportunity to purchase a copy of the photograph afterwards.

Children should come to school in their usual school uniform. If your child has PE on Thursday, they should come to school in their PE kit as normal. However, if you would prefer your child to wear their school uniform for the photograph, please send their uniform in a separate bag and let the class teacher know. Staff will ensure they have time to change before their photograph is taken.
Science Week - week beginning 8th June
Next week, Woodland View will be celebrating our very own Science Week. Throughout the week, we will be encouraging children to explore, investigate and discover the wonders of science through a range of exciting activities designed to spark curiosity and enthusiasm in our young scientists.
Science plays an important role in helping children understand the world around them. It encourages questioning, problem-solving, creativity and resilience - skills that support learning across all areas of the curriculum and beyond. During Science Week, we want every child to experience the excitement of making discoveries and thinking like a scientist.
Children can look forward to a variety of engaging activities, including:
- Daily science puzzles and challenges displayed on the playground screen and around the school.
- A Science Week homework competition, giving children the opportunity to showcase their scientific thinking and creativity.
- Practical investigations and hands-on learning opportunities within classes.
- The exciting launch of Atomic Tom's Science Club 2026, which begins on Tuesday 9th June. Further details about how to join will be shared shortly.
We are looking forward to a fantastic week of exploration, experimentation and scientific discovery. Who knows - we may even inspire the next generation of engineers, inventors, doctors, environmentalists or astronauts!
Sports Day Reminders
We are looking forward to our upcoming Sports Days, one of the highlights of the school year!
Sports Day provides children with the opportunity to challenge themselves, work as part of a team, demonstrate resilience and, most importantly, enjoy being active together. Our events combine both inclusive participation and healthy competition, ensuring that every child can experience success and enjoyment.

Inspire Opportunities continue at Woodland View
Our commitment to providing memorable and inspiring experiences for children continues this term.
Just before half-term, our Year 6 children took part in a fascinating Titanic Experience Day, bringing their history learning to life through immersive activities and hands-on experiences.

This week, our Year 3 and Year 4 pupils enjoyed an exciting Animal Handling Experience, giving them the opportunity to learn about a range of animals up close and develop their understanding of the natural world.

These enriching experiences have been made possible through the incredible support of Friends of Woodland View (FOWV). The money raised through the generosity of our Woodland View families directly funds opportunities such as these, helping us create lasting memories and enhance children's learning experiences. Thank you for your continued support.
Wildcats - football opportunity for girls
We are delighted to share an exciting football opportunity for girls through our link with Wildcats.
Wildcats is a fun, non-competitive football programme designed specifically for girls who would like to try football for the first time or simply enjoy playing with other girls of a similar age.
Sessions are led by FA-qualified coaches and focus on developing fundamental movement skills such as agility, balance, coordination and speed. These skills support not only football but participation in all sports and physical activities.
Most importantly, Wildcats is all about learning new skills, building confidence, making new friends and having lots of fun in a welcoming and supportive environment.
If your daughter would like to get involved, please click the link below to find out more and register.
