School Book Fair Success

A huge thank you to everyone who supported our recent Book Fair. Because of your generosity and enthusiasm, we sold £1032 worth of books, which means the school now has £516 to spend on brand new books for the children to enjoy — thank you, thank you, thank you!

It was wonderful to see so many children excited about books and eager to choose stories to take home. Encouraging a love of reading is one of the greatest gifts we can give children; reading not only develops vocabulary and imagination, but also supports learning across the entire curriculum. Thank you for continuing to support reading at home and helping us foster a lifelong love of books.

National Walk to School Week- Monday 18th - Friday 22nd May

Next week, 18th–22nd May, is National Walk to School Week, and at Woodland View Primary School we are encouraging all of our families to take part. Pupils will be encouraged to walk, wheel, cycle, scoot or ‘Park and Stride’ (for those families who don’t live in Grange Park) to school each day throughout the week. We will begin the week with a whole-school assembly to teach the children about the benefits of walking to school for both the environment and their mental and physical health, as well as reminding them about the importance of staying safe near roads. We hope as many families as possible will join us in supporting this healthy and positive initiative.

Performing Arts Soirée

We are very excited to be starting to prepare for this year's Performing Arts Soiree. For those of you who don't know, this is a super evening of song, music and dance at the Spinney Hill Theatre for children from Years 2 to 6, on Thursday June 18th at 7pm.

As a school, we try to provide any children who want opportunities to perform in this fantastic, professional venue. Already, we are working hard to help children who have put themselves forward for this to demonstrate our values of Cooperation and Creativity, as our various groups rehearse in readiness. There will be a letter very soon notifying you if your child is involved.

As part of preparing ourselves for the Soirée, during the first week back after half-term (week beginning 1st June), we will be encouraging all classes to find out about our second-half theme of Wicked (the film and musical) and The Wizard of Oz. Through that week, they will also be producing some artwork and learning a song that comes from one of the shows. You will be able to see this artwork on the school blogs at the end of the week. Some of this artwork will also be displayed live at the actual soirée event too.

WickOz School Singing Treat - everyone is welcome!

As a special treat and preview, the whole school (FS-Y6) will be performing a song on the playground, for you, the parents. This will take place at the end of the day on Friday 5th June at 2.55pm. If you wish to come and listen, you are more than welcome to join us. Please come and queue by the school gates from 2.50pm. The children will then return to their classes and be dismissed from the school as normal. You are welcome to wait for your children after listening.

We hope you chose to come and listen to our fabulous children demonstrating their singing skills and look forward to seeing you then.

Kidslingo Award Winners!

We are absolutely delighted to share some wonderful news about our Spanish club and lessons provider, Kidslingo Spanish Northampton & MK.

Kidslingo has been awarded Franchisee of the Year at the national Club Hub Awards 2026, recognising excellence amongst children’s education and activity providers across the UK. With over 420 entries nationally this year, this was the most competitive year yet, making the achievement even more remarkable.

At Woodland View, we are incredibly proud to work alongside Kidslingo, whose passion, energy and commitment to children shine through in every session. Their engaging approach to language learning brings Spanish to life for our pupils and creates a genuine love of learning, culture and communication. The enthusiasm we see from the children each week is wonderful, and this award is richly deserved.

Kidslingo delivers fun and engaging Spanish curriculum lessons, clubs and enrichment experiences to children across local schools, nurseries, pre-schools and the wider community, and we feel very fortunate to have them as part of the Woodland View family.

Isabel Reverter-Dominguez, owner of Kidslingo Spanish Northampton & MK, and one of our parents, said:
“This award means the world to me and is a reflection of the amazing children, families, schools and tutors we work with every week.”

Congratulations once again to Isabel and the entire Kidslingo team on this fantastic achievement — we are so proud of you all!

Open View Afternoons

We are delighted to give families some early notice of our upcoming Open View afternoons.

This is a lovely opportunity for parents and carers to come into school, spend some quality time with their child and celebrate all the fantastic work completed throughout the year. We know that children can sometimes be reluctant to share the books they bring home, and we also retain some books in school as evidence, so this provides a wonderful chance to look through their learning together.

We are hoping for sunshine and smiles as families enjoy sitting together and sharing special moments celebrating the children’s achievements. Please feel free to bring outdoor chairs or blankets if you wish.

All sessions will take place from 2:30pm – 3pm
Dates

  • Monday 6th July - Year 1
  • Tuesday 7th July - Foundation Stage & Year 2
  • Wednesday 8th July - Year 3 & Year 4
  • Thursday 9th July - Year 5 & Year 6

We are very much looking forward to welcoming many of you into school.

New Governor

The Governing Board has recently recruited a new Co-opted Governor, and we are pleased to welcome Alex Vujcich to the board.

Co-opted Governors are appointed by the governing board to bring additional skills, experience and perspectives to support the work of the school. Our governors play a vital role in school life, helping to set the strategic direction of the school, supporting and challenging leaders, and ensuring that resources are used effectively so that all children receive the best possible education.

We are very grateful to all of our governors for the time and commitment they give to the school, and we wish Alex every success as she begins this important role.

Lost property

We have a growing collection of lost property in school! Towards the end of next week, all items will be placed out on the top playground at drop-off and pick-up times.

Please take a few moments to check through the items for anything belonging to your child before the remaining clothing is cleared away.
