District Football

A team of Year 6 boys represented the school at the district football competition today. This is a very popular event and 18 different schools competed throughout the day to achieve a place at the county finals in January next year.

The day started brilliantly with the squad leading their own warm-ups and drills in preparation for their games. This attitude and teamwork really impressed Mr Willars and Mr Havard early. On such a cold day, it was wonderful to see the boys working hard and collaborating to ensure that they were ready for a long day of football!

The team were placed in Group A, meaning they would have 4 group stage matches before being reseeded for a final round in the afternoon. The team started brilliantly with a hard-fought 1-0! They followed this up with a 0-0 draw before winning 5-0 and 5-0 again to end the group with three wins, one draw, eleven goals scored and 0 conceded! This was good enough to finish top of the group and advance to the 1st to 4th seed elite group in the afternoon.

In the afternoon, the team continued their dominant performances with a 2-1 and 2-0 win respectively in their first two matches. In their final group game, the team suffered their first defeat (1-0) to the eventual champions on the day. This meant that the team finished 2nd overall on the day; this is good enough to advance to the county competition in January!

The team showed amazing respect, sportsmanship and courage in all of their matches and throughout the day. It really was a privilege for Mr Willars and Mr Havard to take this squad to the competition today and they can't wait to take the boys to the next round. What a brilliant day!
