Headteacher Newsletter 452

Dear parents, please read on for information about Kindness, Culture, Maths Week, Achieve With Me, Anti-Bullying Week, Odd Socks Day, Parent Governor Ballot, Teaching Assistant Vacancy, Friends of Woodland View AGM and the next Family Learning Course.

New Term, New Value – Kindness

This half-term our school value is Kindness. We’ll be encouraging children to show kindness through their words and actions, to think about how they can make others feel valued, and to understand that even small acts of kindness can make a big difference. Learning to be kind helps our children build positive relationships and create a happy, caring school community.

To see how last term’s value, Courage, was celebrated, and to see some special photos of the Courage winners from each class, please select the link https://www.wvps.northants.sch.uk/news/?pid=11&nid=2&storyid=101

Curriculum Focus – Culture

Our curriculum ‘C’ focus this half-term is Culture. During our themes, and in assemblies, we’ll be helping children to learn about different cultures, traditions, and ways of life, both within our school and around the world. Understanding and celebrating diversity helps children to develop respect, empathy, and curiosity about the wider world they are part of.

Maths Week & Achieve With Me

Next week is Maths Week and this year, the focus will be all about money! Our children handle physical money so much less than we ever did and, in our ever-changing society, we want them to grow up confident in what money is, how to take care of it and how to use it wisely. The children will get hands-on with money, solve problems and puzzles about money and really consider the value of money too. Over the coming weeks, Santander will be coming into school to lead sessions about either how to use money well, digital money or what banks do. We are thrilled to have them supporting our maths week. There will also be some family challenges for you to have a go at together at home throughout the week.

Additionally, as part of Maths Week, we will be having a maths themed Achieve with Me session. This will be a great opportunity to see how your child learns through Mastering Number sessions (FS, Year 1 and Year 2), develop understanding of new times tables (Years 3 and 4) or join your child to tackle a Flashback 4 (Years 5 and 6). You will be able to see a session in action and take part alongside your child. Please see below for a reminder of the days. Please wait outside the external door of your child’s classroom at drop-off (Y5 on the top playground) and we’ll let you in as soon as we have registered the children at 9am.

We hope that you can join us!

Monday 10th November - Year 1
Tuesday 11th November - Year 2 & Year 3
Wednesday 12th November - Year 4
Thursday 13th November - Foundation Stage & Year 6
Friday 14th November - Year 5

If you have more than one child at the same time, we will support you to work with both.

Anti-Bullying Week starting with Odds Socks Day on Monday 10th November

Anti-Bullying Week takes place next week beginning Monday 10th November. We’ll start the week by wearing odd socks on Monday – a fun way to celebrate what makes each of us unique and to show that it’s okay to stand out!

During the week, classes will have a special assembly to help them understand the importance of kindness, respect, and speaking up for themselves and others. It’s a great opportunity to remind everyone that bullying is never acceptable and that we all play a part in creating a safe, happy school community.

We’ll also be revisiting our STOP approach – which helps children remember that bullying means Several Times On Purpose, and that the best way to respond is to Start Telling Other People. This simple message empowers pupils to seek help and ensures that no one ever feels alone.

Parent Governor Ballot

Our Parent Governor ballot is now live! Hopefully, you have received your ballot paper earlier this week via your child - if not, please contact the school office. The ballot box will be available in the school’s front entrance during the day, and on the front gate at some drop-off and collection times. Please do take a moment to cast your vote. Thank you once again to all the parent candidates who have kindly put themselves forward to support our school community.

The deadline to vote is at 1pm on Monday 17th November.

FOWV AGM - Reminder - Tuesday 11th November

Our Friends of Woodland View (FOWV) will be holding their Annual General Meeting on Tuesday 11th November at 6.30pm in school, and all parents and carers are very welcome to attend.

If you would like to attend, you can inform the school office or Bex Spires (Chair) at friendsofwoodlandview@gmail.com or you can just turn up!

Family Learning Course

Recently, we held a family learning course on behaviour. It was very well attended by our parents, and the feedback we received was very positive. Therefore, we are eager to continue offering free courses which can support our parents. The next course we have to offer is Family Resilience

This will take place across 4 sessions in school from January 15th-February 5th on Thursday afternoons from 1.10-3.10pm.

Families can face many challenges. Resilient families have skills to ‘bounce back’ and move forward together positively. These sessions are designed to share and explore ways to help your family to become more resilient.

The course will cover:

  • What is resilience?
  • The brain under stress
  • The link between self-esteem and resilience
  • How physical health affects resilience
  • Practical advice, tips and ideas to boost resilience

We will share a Ping in the coming weeks which will give you the opportunity to sign-up for the sessions.
