At Woodland View, we use a systematic and structured phonics approach to ensure our pupils are taught based on their individual academic ability to ensure maximum and accelerated progress for each child. Using Ruth Miskin’s “Read Write inc” resources, alongside our own staff’s knowledge and expertise, we have devised our ‘Phonics Express’ scheme which aims to provide rapid learning of sounds, their corresponding graphemes for spelling, blending and segmenting which leads to confident reading and comprehension. All children from Foundation Stage to Year 2 participate in four Phonics Express sessions per week and children from Year 3 onwards are able to access the scheme, assessing the children individually to ensure their needs are best met in the most appropriate way. All staff have regular update training to ensure our delivery is up to date with current changes and research and with the expectations of curriculum demands.
