Today the children read Bean Thirteen by Matthew McEllicott which is a great story about dividing numbers into equal groups. We talked about how the number 13 is special number because it can only be divided by itself and 1. Somebody from the class could tell us that numbers that can only be divided by 1 and themself are called PRIME NUMBERS. We then tried an investigation using the numbers 1 to 14 to work out which numbers they can be divided by equally. Afterwards, we discussed our findings – what other numbers are prime numbers? What did we notice about even numbers?
