A super start to Year 5!

Year 5 BlogComments Off on A super start to Year 5!

What a brilliant first couple of weeks back we’ve had! All of the children have been impressing us with their enthusiasm to learn, positive attitudes and smiley faces.

Last week, we thought about how to keep our mind’s healthy and thought about positive affirmations we could tell ourselves if we ever needed some positivity! The children blended pastels for a colourful and effective background before writing positive affirmations to stick around photos of themselves in a funky pose.

We also launched into our new topic: You’re Not Invited which is based on our Curriculum ‘C’ for conflict. We have thought about what ‘invasion’ means and related it to the Ancient Roman army. In Geography, we located Italy on a map and identified the bordering and surrounding countries. We also talked about the Roman Empire and how powerful the army must have been.

Today in maths, we continued our place value work and looked at numbers up to 1,000,000! We took our learning outside and practised writing the part-whole model to represent 6-digit numbers.

Overall, we have had a fantastic start to Year 5 and I’m looking forward to what the rest of the year will bring!
