This morning, a group of Year 5 and 6 children represented the school and South Northants District at the Northamptonshire Sportshall Athletics County competition. This event followed on from the previous success that the squad had when they finished 2nd in the district competition last month. This event was going to be tougher as the 10 best schools in the county (2 from each district) travelled to Kettering to compete.
As before, the event sees two competitions running concurrently (boys on track and girls on field and then vice-versa) and then the scores from both are added together to give a combined score. As before, each of the 20 competitors from Woodland View showed amazing determination, sportsmanship and teamwork in each and every event. It was lovely to see children cheering and encouraging their peers throughout and giving them such outstanding support. After an incredibly competitive event, Woodland View finished in 3rd place receiving bronze medals for their efforts and placing an amazing 3rd in the county overall! This is an incredible achievement for the squad as they are the 3rd best team (out of almost 100 schools) in Northamptonshire for Sportshall Athletics!
The 3rd place finish meant that the squad narrowly missed out on being able to go and represent Northamptonshire at the South England event later in the year however the squad has achieved brilliantly in the few weeks they have been training and competing. A huge thank you must also go out to Mr Havard who has given up his time to help get the squad on top form ready for the today’s competition.
