This afternoon, our winning Year 6 football team went to Daventry to take part in the Year 5/6 District finals. We knew that a win in our first match (the semi-final) would take us through to the County finals in January, regardless of the finals result.
It was a fierce and close match with both teams having plenty of chances, however we defended well and found ourselves drawing 1-1 with just two minutes left. We knew that we needed a moment of magic! And that’s exactly what we got in the final 20 seconds of the match with our striker slotting the ball home completely out of nothing. We were through to the final!
The final was a completely different game and we certainly looked the stronger team, having plenty more chances than the other team. Unfortunately, we just couldn’t get the goal and so it went to extra time where it also remained goalless. It was therefore down to penalties!
Penalties is certainly not a nice way to lose, but the children were incredibly courageous to take their penalties. Was it Woodland View’s day? It certainly was! After five penalties it was 3-3 and it therefore went to sudden death where we scored our penalty and the opposition missed. We were crowned the West Northamptonshire District winners! The children now go into the County Finals in January where we look forward to doing it all over again….apart from the penalties!
