Mathematical bridge designers!

In Mrs Cox’s maths groups this morning, we looked at adding and subtracting decimals. We were tasked with designing three new bridges.
The children were given several possible bridge segments and given three rules to abide by: each structure must have an entry and exit ramp, it must not be shorter than the original bridge and hey could use as many of each part as needed. Their challenge was to design new bridges that would be as close to the original length as possible. They had to work systematically, utilise their estimation skills as well as carry out written calculations. Some of their final designs were extremely close to the original lengths! Great team work and super calculating!
