This morning, to celebrate what would have been Captain Tom’s 101st birthday we challenged our year sixes to a range of physical challenges to complete: 100 cartwheels, 100 metres sprint, 100 catches, 100 press ups…the list goes on. All children completed one of the challenges, but many completed more! We finished our outside challenges with a final class challenge: to complete 100 catches without dropping the ball (this was trickier than we thought it would be)!
Once back in the classroom, the children were presented with a mathematical challenge centred around the number 100. Using exactly four 5s, and any mathematical operation, how many ways could they make 100? It was great to see them working together and considering their answers – a great practice of using BIDMAS to help them record their calculations too!
