Reflections

Year 6 BlogComments Off on Reflections

Maths this week has been all about coordinates: we have been reading and plotting them; translating shapes and describing translations; and today we moved onto reflecting shapes in either the x or y axis on a four quadrant grid. In Mrs Cox’s group, we looked carefully at what happened to the coordinates when a shape was reflected in each axis and made some general statements about what always happened to the coordinates. It was great to see the children generalising about the mathematics!
Can your child complete the following statements and explain why this happens?

When reflecting in the y axis, the …. coordinate ….

when reflecting in the x-axis, the …. coordinate ….
