Diwali celebrations

Reception BlogComments Off on Diwali celebrations

This week the children have been learning all about the celebration Diwali. We have listened to a story about Dipal’s Diwali which told us all about the things that he and his family do to celebrate and we also listened to the story of Rama and Sita.

In Literacy the children have been listening for and writing sounds related to Diwali pictures and in Maths they have been learning the names and properties of 2d shapes as well as making repeating patterns with them.

Challenges this week have included practising writing sounds, designing Mehndi patterns, painting Rangoli patterns, working out 1 more and 1 less and playing Diwali I-Spy.

Alongside this the children have been making Diva lamps ready for our Diwali celebration on Monday, painting with spices, retelling the Rama and Sita story using puppets, making Diwali cards and much more.
