Today, a team of Year 5 and 6 children represented the school at the county basketball finals at Moulton College. The team qualified for today’s county finals event after their success at the district finals last week.
The event saw each qualifying team from around Northamptonshire compete in a round-robin stage before a pair of semi-finals followed by the county final. We were placed in the second group which saw us play Woodnewton, Millway and Alfred Street. We opened up the tournament against Woodnewton winning 16-2 before a tough second game which saw us win 12-8 against Millway. This hard fought victory guaranteed us a place in the semi-final however we could top our group with a win. Our final game saw us face off against Alfred Street. After a strong first half, the team continued to thrive beating them 18-0 and putting us top of our group with three wins out of three!
After advancing from the group stages, the semi-final saw us play against the runners-up of the first group, Redwell. The team took a commanding lead early and never looked back! The team continued to progress and came out into with a comprehensive 16-2 victory! This saw the team return to the county finals for the fourth year in a row!
The stage was set. The county final. For the third year in a row, the big match would be contested between Woodland View and Delapre. Three county finals, three loses, was history about to repeat itself?
Both teams had played superbly throughout the day both going into the final unbeaten After a close, tense ten minutes of play, the match ended. The final score… Delapre 8… Woodland View… 14!! For the first time, and at the fourth attempt, WOODLAND VIEW WERE THE COUNTY CHAMPIONS!!
An incredible team effort by all of the children to come away with the victory and the title and the trophy. We are incredibly proud of the team for their excellent sportsmanship, how they represented the school and their cooperation to pull together and claim the trophy. An amazing achievement!
