In English this week, we delved into the world of World War One and the infamous trenches. We started this topic by immersing ourselves in trench warfare. We had to imagine we were actually in the trenches and think about how we might have felt as well as using our senses to describe the torturous trenches around us.

After, we handled WWI artefacts and discussed their roles and importance in the war.

Some of the words and phrases we thought about were:

  • Exhausted
  • Terrified/ petrified
  • Anxious/ apprehensive
  • Lonely and isolated
  • Sorrowful
  • Outraged at the enemies
  • Starving/ thirsty/ lips are cracking and mouth is dry
  • Trembling with fear

We are excited to explore WWI in more detail during our topic sessions.
