Headteacher Newsletter 443

Dear parents, please read on for details about our new Value and Curriculum ‘C’, Science Week, Sports Day, Open View, Sporting Success, Holiday Camps, Class Comedians, and reflections of Inspire, Enjoy, Achieve.

New Value and Curriculum ‘C’ - Respect and Conservation

Now we are in our final term of the academic year, we focus on our final Value ‘RESPECT’ and Curriculum focus ‘CONSERVATION’.

Respect is our core value, meaning that it is the one that underpins all of our other values; it is the most important value. Respect means that our children accept each other for who they are, even when they’re different from them or that they don’t agree with them. Showing respect is when our children care about how their actions affect others; it is when they treat others how they would like to be treated.

We focus on Conservation because our children are very aware of the ever-changing condition of our planet and the significant impact climate change is having on it. Our children discuss these issues, also they are eager to find out more about how they, and future generations, can sustain the health and existence of our Earth. Our Conservation themes enable children to learn more about these issues and, hopefully, will help them grow up to have a positive impact on them.

Please speak with your children about Respect and Conservation, and hopefully they will impress you with their understanding throughout the term!

For more information on our values and ethos, including protected characteristics, equality and diversity, and British values, please visit our school website https://www.wvps.northants.sch.uk/page/?title=Our+Values+and+Ethos&pid=48

Science Week

This week is Science Week at Woodland View! Mrs Hodgson and Miss Brahimaj, our Science Leads, have organised an inspiring week with special assemblies, quizzes, scientist studies, competitions and exciting science workshop sessions for all the children, led by Atomic Science, and funded by the FOWV.

We hope the children are inspired, enjoy their week and achieve wonderful science outcomes!

Sports Days Reminder

Sports Day is a much-loved highlight of the school year, bringing together fun, cooperation, and a healthy dose of friendly competition. It’s a chance for children to be active, support each other, and showcase their sporting talents to you!

Hopefully you have these dates in your diaries already, but just in case please see the dates and times for Sports Days coming up this term:
Thursday 26th June - Foundation Stage - 9-10.15am
Thursday 26th June - Years1&2 - 10.15am-12.15pm
Friday 27th June - Years 5&6 - 9-11.30am
Friday 27th June - Years 3&4 - 12.50-3.10pm

We’re looking forward to hosting our Sports Days very soon and seeing many of you there!

Open View

Throughout the year, we believe it’s important to give parents many opportunities to visit school and see what your child is learning and how they are progressing. We do this in a range of ways, including Class Drop-ins, Achieve With Me Sessions, Year Group Performance Evenings, Sports Days, Parents’ Evenings and Information/Curriculum Meetings.

One of our most popular events for parents is our Open View sessions. This is an opportunity for you to sit with your child and look through their work from the year (hopefully in the beautiful sunshine!). Each session starts at 2.30pm and finishes at 3pm.

Here is a reminder of the dates:
Monday 7th July: Y1&Y3
Tuesday 8th July: Y2&Y4
Wednesday 9th July: Foundation Stage
Thursday 10th July: Y5&Y6

At the end of the term, you will also receive your child’s end-of-year report which outlines their academic progress, outcomes and successes from the year and identifies targets for future improvement.

Blogs

Please visit our school blog pages on the school website to see some of the wonderful learning the children have been doing recently.  https://www.wvps.northants.sch.uk/page/?title=Year+Group+Blogs&pid=75

More Sporting Success

We have continued to succeed in school sports competitions! Our Year 6 Athletics Squad competed in a Regional competition last week against 29 schools. The events included running, jumping and throwing: a 75m sprint, a 600m run, a mixed relay, a vortex howler throw and a standing long jump. The children performed superbly and finished with the 3rd place Bronze medal.

Our Year 6 Netball Team also performed very well recently in a competition against 12 schools. After 5 consecutive wins, the talented squad reached the semi-finals and won with a dominant 6-1 scoreline. After a hard-fought final, they lost in a close 3-2 match.

I am very grateful to the staff involved in running these clubs and providing the opportunities, parents for supporting us, and, of course, our talented and courageous children for taking part and demonstrating our school values as they compete!

Craft Barn and Freestyle Holiday Camps

Craftbarn and Freestyle are holding holiday camps at Woodland View again this summer.

Craft Barn: 21st and 22nd July - a Ping will be shared soon for sign-up
Freestyle: 28th and 29th July - to book, go to https://freestylegroup.co.uk/event-list/holiday-camps/

If you are looking for school holiday fun and supervision for your child, please consider these great options!

Class Comedians!

5VN would like to thank everyone who voted for the joke they entered, in a bid to be crowned Britain's Funniest Class 2025.
They were thrilled to get through to the final, and although we didn't win…they did win prizes as a runner-up! Woodland View now has a one year subscription to the comic for our library, and every member of the class won their own copy of the Beano annual! We are very proud of our very funny and very happy class!

Inspire, Enjoy, Achieve

The summer term is always a busy one with so many school events and special activities taking place.
Even though we have many more things to come, now seems like a good time to reflect on some of the ways in which we Inspire our pupils, so that they Enjoy their time in school, and, subsequently Achieve well. All that we offer and do helps to develop children’s wider personal development and academic abilities.
