3D Sculptures
Today, we have created 3D sculptures inspired by some of the historical figures that we have learnt about in our theme this half-term: I have a dream. We started our projects by researching Alberto Giacometti and some of his most famous sculpture masterpieces. These would be the inspiration for our very own creations.
We started the morning by thinking about how body language can impact how we are feeling and how this can be portrayed through stick figures. We completed a short challenge where we needed to try and demonstrate a range of emotions (embarrassment, joyfulness, sadness, etc.) with stick figures. After doing this, we thought carefully about how we could use our knowledge of famous civil rights leaders and the actions they took to help empower and make our world a more inclusive place (e.g. Nelson Mandela and walking to freedom, Rosa Parks and sitting for the bus-boycott, etc.).
We then had lots of fun bringing our sculptures to life by creating a 'skeleton' made from paper straws and masking tape. After that, we used Modroc to help set our sculptures and ensure that they maintained their form.
It has been wonderful to see what we have achieved in one day and the sculptures that we have created look amazing! They are a wonderful representation of the civil rights leaders we have covered in our theme!
