Is It Waterproof?

Today in Science, we were testing different materials to see how waterproof they were. We first predicted whether a material would be waterproof. We then placed each material in turn over an empty beaker and poured 100ml over the material slowly. We then measured how much water was captured by the beaker. We were surprised that the paper didn't let any water through and we talked about some of the materials being absorbent, such as the fabric.
